Botswana

Création Botswana aims to support and scale up entrepreneurs in the fashion and textile industry in Botswana. It is an ambitious initiative supported by the French government to promote and support fashion entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. The project is coordinated by the Alliance Française de Gaborone and the National Arts Council of Botswana, with the support of the French Embassy in Botswana.

  1. Stimulate and support of fashion entrepreneurship;

  2. Bolster the fashion in Botswana;

  3. Promote international cooperation and business development;

  4. Connect fashion entrepreneurs with their peers in Africa and Europe;

  5. Strengthen Botswana-France relations;

  6. Encourage sustainable practices in fashion entrepreneurship.

Do you have what it takes?

Participants

Two categories of fashion entrepreneurs, specifically designers of clothing as, follows:

Cohort 1 –Emerging Fashion Entrepreneurs

This category is targeted at up-and-coming youth entrepreneurs with emerging fashion brands in the fashion industry. Specifically, the participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be youth between the ages of 18-35

  • Must be a fashion designer: must have a qualification in fashion design OR professional experience as a fashion designer or related field.

  • Running a business for a period not exceeding 5 years.

  • Have a business plan and/or a proof of concept ready even in an early phase.

  • Must be willing to actively engage in all stages of the program and participate in all hosted events.

  • If a company, the applicant must hold more than 50% equity

  • Must submit all documents as per competition rules

Cohort 2 – Established Fashion Entrepreneurs

This category targeted to established fashion entrepreneurs with recognizable fashion brands. Specifically, the participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be over the age of 21.

  • You are the founder or a co-founder of a fashion enterprise with more than 50% equity.

  • Your company is registered and headquartered in Botswana

  • Your company has market traction and at least 3 years of revenue.

  • Must be able and willing to participate in a mandatory six (6) months incubator program.

  • Must be willing to actively engage in all stages of the program, participate in all hosted events, and be involved in the presentation of at least one workshop for the benefice of the first cohort.

  • Be prepared to travel to any other designated city or country to participate in an event or workshop. As part of this mission, all necessary travel expenses for events, workshops, or any other related activities will be covered.

  • Must submit all documents as per competition rules

Application
Process

Applicants must submit the following documents to be considered:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  2. Certified Copy of ID

  3. A digital bound portfolio in A3 format (42cm x 29.7cm), including the following (mandatory minimum contents): 

  • Sketches for THREE (3) OUTFITS. Each sketch must include at least front andback views (Sketches’ technique is free)

  • Collection name.

  • Source of inspiration.

  • Detailed description of the outfit’s manufacturing and creative process.

For Cohort 2 Applicants, one of the outfits must be presented as a finished garment.

  • Creativity, innovation and experimentation, sustainability of processes and
    materials used as well as the finishing and overall quality of the works presented.

  • Proven record of operations and revenue generation.

  • Demonstrate value-chain development and reinvestment in local communities,

  • Demonstrate capacity to create sustainable jobs,

  • Show export potential.
